It’s everywhere, enter a supermarket and have a look around. The large majority of packaged processed food products contain some type of artificial sweetener. Artificial sweeteners have a variety of different names but today I would like to talk about the two most common – Aspartame (Equal® and NutraSweet®) and Sucralose (Splenda®). This blog post is going to get you thinking about whether or not this is something that you really want to be putting into that precious body of yours.
Aspartame contains a mixture of phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol. These have all been recognised as neurotoxins, which create toxicity within the chemical pathways in the brain and body. What’s more, studies have shown that when heated above 30 degrees Celsius (keep in mind that our bodies sit at around 37 Celsius degrees), free methanol can be created from aspartame. Due to the way that the bonds are formed, this free methanol is then able to be broken down to create formaldehyde, which is used for a multitude of things but one in particular – as embalming fluid. Embalming fluid, quite possibly in our internal bodies. Mind = blown, GROSS!
Further to this, aspartame has been linked to the following reported symptoms:
headaches, nausea, vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, insomnia, numbness and tingling of extremities, blurred vision, memory loss, slurred speech, mood changes, anxiety attacks, hyperactivity, heart arrhythmia, gastrointestinal disorders, muscle cramps, joint pains, fatigue, chest pain, increased appetite, and more!
Aspartame is a chemical, not a food. Simple really.
This video might help you to understand more about the detrimental effects that may be a result of aspartame toxicity.
Sucralose (or otherwise known as Splenda®) is another controversial sweetener on the market. It is a chlorinated artificial sweetener that has been said to have the ability to kill ants, there are various sources online that talk about this however I’ve never personally experimented with it. If I do I’ll be sure to update this blog post to let you all know. Please keep in mind that most documented cases online noted a wait period of about 4-5 days – it’s not something that produced an instant ant killer effect! If this is actually in fact able to kill ants, tiny ALIVE BEINGS, fundamentally the same thing as us, imagine what it’s able to do to us over prolonged periods of use?
Similarly to Aspartame, the reported possible symptoms from sucralose exposure are numerous. To name a few, some of them are skin allergies, shortness of breath, swelling in the facial area, headaches and/or migraines, stomach bloating, gas, joint pain, anxiety, dizziness and more!
Nowhere in nature can you find chlorinated sweeteners. Sucralose wreaks havoc on your internal system. Period!
Despite this news, it’s not all bad. There are other not so toxic (in my opinion) alternatives that I like to suggest, these are:
- Raw organic honey,
- Pure maple syrup, and if you need the consistency of sugar opt for
- Organic Rapadura, which is an unrefined cane sugar.
Like all things, just because the above can be seen as the “not so toxic” version, it doesn’t mean that you can go gung-ho with them. Everything in moderation! 🙂
