I absolutely love nuts, they’re a healthy and nutritious snack which can be enjoyed in many different ways. I personally like to snack on a handful a day whilst working, but sometimes I like to change it up. Here are some of the ways that I like to enjoy my nuts! 😉
- Eat your nuts activated
Activated nuts differ from raw nuts in that they have been soaked in water for a period of time and then dried out in a dehydrator or in the oven at a low temperature. The soaking process kicks off the germination and sprouting process, this allows for the nuts to be more easily digested and also increases their nutrient value. You can either purchase activated nuts from a health food store or alternatively you can make your own.
- Make balls from your nuts
Who doesn’t love a bliss ball snack attack? These babies are so delicious. Combine nuts with your favourite dried fruits and/or seeds, add some desiccated coconut if you like, blitz it in a food processor and voila, you’ve got yourself a bliss ball mix. Roll them into yummy balls, they always stick and taste better once they’ve had time to set in the fridge. I love combining dried cranberries, medjool dates, desiccated coconut, pistachios and a little cacao to make my balls. 😉
- Add nuts to a salad for a little crunch
Liven up the texture of your salad by adding nuts into the mix. This is a great way to add extra nutrients, fiber content and protein to your plate. I personally like sliced pear, walnuts, mixed greens and arugula salad, dress it with a pinch of salt, olive oil and a touch of balsamic vinegar and you’ve got yourself a salad from heaven – YUM!
- Make some nutty love spread
Make (or you can buy it from a health food store) some simple 1 ingredient (no additives, preservatives, unrecognisable numbers included) nut butter. You can use it as a spread, a creamy dip, swirl it into your morning oats or add it to a smoothie. I love to add a teaspoon of almond butter to my oats, it adds a great flavour to it and tastes delicious! Some other nut butters you can make are cashew, macadamia, (real) peanut or even get creative and try a combination.
So with this in mind, get creative and love your nuts! Think of new ways to experiment and add this powerhouse into your daily intake of nutrients.
